Adding WordPress to The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding (TNG)

Zerega Family History Site

Creating my Zerega family genealogy site was the project that led to my career in web design. In 2007 I migrated my family database to The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding (TNG) software, created some customizations was very pleased with the results.

Fast forward to March of 2009 when I found myself with "spare time" due to a layoff. A friend of mine at suggested I look into WordPress as tool for creating websites and the rest as been "web design" history. I'm amazed at how easy it is to create sites that look great and have easy to implement features using WordPress plugins, and of course, I wanted to update my family genealogy site with features for comments, blogging, etc.. but how?

For inspiration, I reviewed the TNG User site page and found some new sites posted with the description "WordPress" - so it could be done! I contacted Terry Gregory, author of the Gregoryology site and he supplied me with a link to the instructions on integrating your TNG site with WordPress.

I will be tackling this integration project in September - look for more news then. :)

TNG Software User Sites

A new collection of family photos provided by Uncle Jim prompted me to upgrade my version of The Next Generation  genealogy software and update the Zerega Family History website. I was very happy that Darrin Lythgoe listed my site on the TNG User Site page so quickly and I love the new photo linking features in TNG v7.
